As I’ve stated in past posts, my room isn’t as big as I’m used to. It’s not tiny, but it’s the smallest room in the house and I decided to squeeze a double bed into it. It was manageable, but uncomfortable.

Commonly overlooked in tight spaces are closet doors. Mine were bi-fold, nothing special. They didn’t look too bad, they worked fine, and they didn’t seem to take up that much space. At least, that’s what I thought before I took them off. They no longer hide the inside of my closet (which hasn’t got too much going on in the first place), but they used to always be open anyway, so there’s nothing new. What I hadn’t expected, was how much space they freed up. Who knew closet doors took so much space?
From here, I have a few choices. What I’m probably going to do is add a curtain. If I do that, I can use a tension rod, as suggested by Apartment Therapy (#9), or an actual curtain rod, or a curtain wire (cheap at IKEA). Plus, I can hang it from above the trim, like I would a window, in the trim where the doors used to be, or on the inside so the rod or wire is hidden. Not to mention, I have to choose a curtain. I think a plain white opaque curtain will work best, but if you have any other suggestions, I’d love to hear them!
If I don’t do a curtain, I could try a mirrored sliding door. It wouldn’t intrude into the room when opened and everyone knows mirrors help a room appear larger. But I’d only be able to see half my closet at a time, and I already have a mirror so more could make me seem a little on the narcissistic side.
Personally, I prefer the curtain idea. Tell me what you think in the comments!

Curtains are a good choice. Tension rods give out and the wires tend to sag so I’m with you on the curtain rod. For me the curtain needs to just kiss the floor. White is fresh but will the bottom get dirty or the sides get grubby from pulling? I’d love to see a sliding barn door there, but I always seem to pick the hardest solution, lol. I look forward to seeing what you did!

A barn door would be so cool! Unfortunately, it wouldn’t fit, but under other circumstances, I would have taken that under serious consideration.
