Today was the day of my graduation ceremony. I missed it. One hazard of going to university in another country. Here's to the friends I made by accident or by design, in class, commons, and societies, instantly or over time. Here's to the sleepovers, and sleepless library nights. Here's to Winchester, it's Cathedral, and … Continue reading Graduation Day
Mild Spoilers at the end. I'll let you know. A Fierce and Subtle Poison, I am happy to say, is as good a book as it's cover. I took a chance on this one, having never heard of it before. The cover told me the bare minimum about the book, but the first sentence of … Continue reading A Fierce and Subtle Poison
I've left two schools in the past six months. One was a typical, happy, graduation kind of leave. The other was a non-typical, special-circumstances kind of leave. There are some things that only happen with the first kind and some things that only happen with the second, and there are a few that happen with both. … Continue reading What Happens When You Leave School
Spoiler-free. Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake came out three weeks ago, so if you've never heard of it, just give it time. I'd never heard of it before picking it up in the bookstore to study its cover. It's black matte, and the art is incredible, easy to study for a while without getting … Continue reading Three Dark Crowns
It's Canadian Thanksgiving. I haven't celebrated Thanksgiving (in Canada) since 2012, and my first one back doesn't look promising, but nonetheless, I will do what all bloggers seem to do at Thanksgiving. Besides, it's been too long since I last counted my blessings. I'm thankful for my abundance of family and their good health, friends no … Continue reading Canadian Thanksgiving (2)
I quit school. If you're wondering what that last post was about, it's that. I was finding myself increasingly unhappy in school to the point where it was affecting my grades and I was late every morning because I hated coming in. I was hyper-aware that when I graduated I would be soaked and dripping in … Continue reading I Quit School.
I like to complete things. Whether the first draft of a book or my entire university degree, I enjoy the sense of accomplishment that comes with finishing something I worked hard on. I don't always complete things. In ninth grade, I handed in my provincial achievement test for science incomplete even though I had time … Continue reading Incomplete
I've got two beautiful books to live on for the month of October. I hadn't heard of either before spotting them in the bookstore, so I'm going in without any preconceived notions about them. A Fierce and Subtle Poison by Samantha Mabry: "How would you describe your condition?" I asked. Isabel didn't respond. Instead, her eyes … Continue reading October Reads
Unsatisfied with my design education (though keep in mind I've only been in school for 10 weeks out of 52), I spent my weekend watching videos, reading books, and researching graphic design, in particular, typography and book covers. https://www.instagram.com/p/BKgmoXMgJrO/?taken-by=byivy In class we're working on html and we all created our own websites (yes, another) and one … Continue reading Inspiration: Book Covers
Today on the way home from work, I was reading Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice when I caught a glimpse of an extraordinary piece of artwork. The guy sitting across from me was drawing the guy sleeping next to me in his sketchbook with a pen and it looked amazing. I will admit I stared. … Continue reading I’m a Model
