My Commentary on Supergirl

The following won’t contain any huge spoilers, as in, nothing you won’t have already guessed if you’ve seen the trailer or the first episode of any superhero-type of tv show ever. Still, if you get annoyed at any spoilers at all, just watch the show first.

I watched the pilot of Supergirl and the entire time, I was messaging my thoughts to my friend Pat. Instead of writing an articulate critical article here, I thought I’d just copy and paste most of my comments. Enjoy.

Super girl doesn’t really appeal to me, have you watched it yet?

Was about to. I’ve been told it’s like flash but different.

The exposition was okay. A lot less cheese than I was expecting.

She reminds me of Felicity from Arrow

four minutes and thirty seconds in already has me laughing out loud

Hmm, the initial incident is thirty seconds early. Good for them

lol she has useless glasses too? Why????

Let’s be honest, she should be naked right now

WHY IS NO ONE ON THE CRASHING PLANE WEARING THE OXYGEN MASKS?? THEY ARE THERE FOR A REASON

Yeah, naked. Her clothes should’ve been burnt and torn to such an extent that she wouldn’t have any.

But surely the costume is pretty suped-up

But she hasn’t got one yet

She could totally say “My sister saw” and get a promotion right now but she’s still stunned I think

lol love interest #1 is excited

poor guy thinks he’s getting kissed or that she’s coming out as gay

The effects need some work

lol lady literally just said “Can you believe it? A female hero!” like, I know. Those are rare and endangered.

The villain has appeared, and he’s 2.5 minutes early! I’m hopeful that they’re saving this extra time for something good later.

I kind of wish Superman had his own TV show, just so we’d get crossovers. But he’s got enough movies and his personality’s too bland to carry a show. Too bad.

Why haven’t Flash or Arrow mentioned Superman or anything? They’d better mention Supergirl! Ooh, she’d get along with them so well!

Love interest #1 just casually hacks the local police. Yeah, okay.

Oh, first it’s their planet’s symbol for hope, now it’s their family’s coat of arms. Let’s all be honest, it’s a freakin’ ‘S’ for super, okay?

Aww, they used the extra time so they could put her in a revealing suit? Seriously?

Oh look. Drama. Really boring drama.

I’m all for a revealing costume, but only if she’s okay with it of course

Well she wasn’t forced into it, but she was uncomfortable.

“She’s not strong enough” “Why? Cuz she’s a girl?” I’M ALL FOR EQUALITY BUT WE CAN SEE THAT SHE IS LITERALLY NOWHERE NEAR AS STRONG AS VILLAIN GUY

Cool, sounds pretty interesting, I might have to watch this….

What a coincidence the timing of Kal-el and photographer guy coinciding with bad guys deciding to appear suddenly.

Hmmm

It’s only the first season, so I’m going to give the villains the benefit of the doubt, but they really aren’t interesting. But super girl’s personality will easily hold up this show.

So is superman a main part of it all?

Ivy
As much as Oliver’s dad is in the first season of Arrow. He’ll probably fade away as time goes on.

Pat 
Cool, so what’s the supergirls backstory here?

Ivy
She came to take care of superman, but the space-flight experienced some space-turbulence and she got there kind of late, and superman was already superman when she got here at 13 years old. So she was like, cool, I get to be a normal teenager!

Awesome!
