Way back in December, I got cast in my first union role as Kelli in Ming’s Dynasty. I got to be on set for two days for this project and it was so much fun! The project itself is also super funny and creative.
I’ve had a busy weekend.
First of all, you should know I got a job. It’s a part-time thing and it came in the nick of time, according to my bank account. I don’t know what this means for the acting thing.
I was going to quit acting in November.
Well, I was supposed to quit this time last year.
Last week Monday, I went to a theatre audition. I’ll spare you the suspense—I didn’t get it. But I ran into a few people I’d gotten to know since joining the industry, and one of them said to me, “I see you in, like, everything.”
When I approached the counter of the Starbucks I’m currently writing this from, the barista, Michelle, greeted me by name. This Starbucks is across the city from where I live, so this was slightly concerning. However, it’s five minutes from Heritage Park where I’ve been going to rehearsal five times a week for the last two months.
When people find out I’m an actor, often the first question they ask is “Film or theatre?” I’ve always answered film because that’s been what I wanted to do since I first wanted to act, and more recently screen acting is the only kind I do. But like many actors, I got my start in theatre.
In November last year, I was lucky enough to play Hanna in Snowshoe & Monster, a webseries pilot for Telus Storyhive. We had three days and $10K to make the best pilot we could.
In February, the finished Snowshoe & Monster pilot came out and was one of two pilots chosen to make five more episodes with $50K.
Snowshoe & Monster is out! You can watch it using the link below and please remember to vote for it!
2018 has been interesting in a good way. As with nearly every year, 2018 started with parties. Then there were a few days of chilling and getting organized in preparation for the upcoming year.
There were good times, there were bad times (especially in the USA, stay safe American friends). It was a bit of a crazy year. Personally, it was my year off to pursue my acting dreams, which was a far more successful pursuit than I thought it would be.
